Ever wanted to send IM to your friend who are on Yahoo Messenger, Hotmail, Gmail, AOL, etc........ OK I think you're getting the picture. Ya, you would say "why do I need this?, when I can install Yahoo and Live Messenger, etc and get my work done" BUT doing so only makes your PC slower and slower. Doing this is pointless if the only thing u r gonna do is send only text to people you known.
Example:
Yahoo Messenger consumes around ~41 Mb of Physical Memory & ~155 Mb of Virtual Memory, See Below:
While Live Messenger only takes up around ~7 Mb of Physical Memory & ~165 Mb of Virtual Memory.
Pidgin is somewhat balanced taking about ~24 Mb of Physical Memory & ~74 Mb of Virtual Memory. This is because I had all 4 of my account such as Yahoo, MSN, Gmail and ICQ configured to it.
Pidgin also supports AIM, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, Google Talk, Groupwise, ICQ, IRC, QQ, SILC, SIMPLE, Sametime, XMPP, and Zephyr Protocol.
Of course there are some downfalls. Ex. You cannot use the Webcam. :-(. But most other features are there. Besides its fast and stable. I use it cause its very handy. I don't have to install 4 Messenger to keep in touch with my friends.
Click here for more info visit their Homepage.
At the moment it supports Windows, Fedora Core, CentOS & RHEL
Here is the download Page.
Enjoy.
